Question: Who was Johann Christoph Gottsched?

Answer 1/2
Johann Christoph Gottsched was a German literary notability, born near Koenigsberg, professor of philosophy and belles-lettres at Leipzig; was throughout his life the literary dictator of Germany; did much to vindicate the rights and protect the purity of the German tongue, as well as to improve the drama, but he wrote and patronized a style of writing that was cold, stiff, and soulless. Lived from 1700 to 1766.
