Question: Is calcium caltrate the same as calcium?
"Calcium caltrate" is a commercial brandname for the chemical "calcium carbonate" (CaCO3). In that sense, it is not the same as pure calcium.
However, calcium carbonate is often taken as a way to supplement a person's dietary calcium intake. So consuming calcium carbonate is a way to get calcium into your body and as such might be equated with calcium. Calcium carbonate is also an effective antacid.
A more expensive dietary calcium supplement is calcium citrate, which is more readily absorbed into the body and does not need to be taken with food.
